Desert Sun Nudist Resort Goes for Skinny Dipping Record

Palm Springs (PRWEB) June 30, 2009 -- "The Guinness World Records organization has just created a new category for the greatest number of naked people to be in swimming pools at the same time," said Desert Sun Resort owner Elizabeth Young. "Desert Sun Resort will welcome hundreds of nude people in its three pools all at the same time at noon July 11 - the same time that thousands of other naked people across the nation will also be in the water to set this national record."

Desert Sun Resort, at 1533 N. Chaparral Rd., is the nation's most "upscale" nudist resort, having been referred to by USA Today as "the jewel in the crown of nudist resorts," Young said. There are 91 units in the resort, the most of any nudist resort in California. Those units include 32 hotel rooms and 59 condominiums on the 6-acre site. They were built in stages during the past decade, making the resort the newest and largest nudist facility in California. Desert Sun Resort is built on land where Errol Flynn and Doris Day once owned hotels. Flynn's property is now the location of the nude tennis court.

Desert Sun Resort gained international attention when the world's first Nude Bridge opened to allow resort-goers to cross from one side of the property to the other without clothes. The 140-foot, 25-ton pedestrian crossing over Indian Canyon Drive was the topic of news stories and comments from news organizations to Jay Leno's "Tonight" show.

"We invite anyone who wants to try nude recreation to our resort for a special two-for-one day pass for Saturday, July 11 only," Young said. Reservations are required for any overnight stay, as well as for the special two-for-one day passes. "The Desert Sun Resort is a family-friendly facility with strict conduct rules prohibiting any actions that are not G-rated," she said.

"We expect this to be an extremely popular event that will sell out well ahead of the planned date," Young said. "Skinny-dipping is a wholesome tradition as old as humanity and frequently honored in art and movies. It celebrates the natural joy of plunging into water without hindrance of clothing."

The world-record try is sponsored by the American Association of Nude Recreation. Young said that in accordance with Guinness World Records rules, all participants to be counted "must be completely nude during the skinny-dip."
